Chapter#2: The Savior Baby

Chapter#2: The Savior Baby

To lead a healthy life one should have a sound mind that is what we all believe in. There are many factors that help the person in leading a healthy life but the peace of mind comes by serving the humanity whether they are people of your own family or people whom you do not know personally. The basic idea of organ transplant is to save the lives of as many people as one can do.
It is very important that we realize the importance of serving people by transplant. There have been many research done in which the transplants have saved lives of people so that they can live long and healthy life. I read about the case of a Savior Baby in which a sibling is brought in this world to serve his or her sibling. It is the concept of rejuvenation of life from one to the other. It has become an important study in most of the fields in this era. (Koboldt, 2013)
Here I give you a story as an illustration of how the idea of the savior baby works. For example, a  family whose child is suffering from a problem in her kidney and it was just one kidney that got damaged till she was 15 and doctors said that in the coming 10 years her other kidney will stop working and in the result of that she will die. That was such shocking news for everyone that all of the people started counting her days. We all know that one healthy kidney is sufficient for living.
The doctor gave the advice of giving birth to a savior baby so that they can save their daughter. They gave birth to another child who was perfectly healthy and had two kidneys sound and healthy. They decide  after some years the brother will donate a kidney to the sister. This happened after two decades almost when the sister was on the verge of death. He saved his sister and gave a new life to her.
The concept of the savior baby highlights some of the moral and ethical dilemmas that have always been neglected. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) gives hope to the parents who want to save a child, in this procedure the biopsy of the embryo is done to check whether the child would be able to help the sibling after birth. It raises the question of abortion that if the embryo is not according to the medical expectations then it would be aborted. It is the process of setting many lives on verge of dying for a one child. (Fasbender, 2009)

Savior babies can be very helpful in saving the lives of the people while leading a happy and healthy life of their own as well. The modern technology is now helping the parents to know before the development of embryo that whether the child a suitable donor or not. Many people are now forcing this idea that this concept is great in saving lives. There are many doctors in that area motivating parents to have a savior sibling if their child is on the stake of death. (Robin McKie, 2004). So should we vote yes to the concept of the savior baby?

Chapter#1: An Overview of Organ Transplantation

Chapter#1: Topic Introduction

The field of medicine is showing so much progress in every field of theirs and now maximum of the patients are able to be cured. Organ Transplantation is also one of such fields in which continuous research have made it a possible for the doctors and specialist to perform any transplant. Nowadays it is also said that through research it is found that the doctors can create a new organ from the tissues of the patients as well. The whole process of organ transplantation includes getting a donor from any blood relative or from outside market and transplants it in the place of defective organ. But there are many controversies related to this field. A whole black market is developing that do organ trade and the people who are poor give their organs to others for the sake of money. My blog highlights the issue of organ trade in organ transplantation field and many other aspects related to it.

 Organ Trade History

The history of organ trade lies many years back, when the demand of organ transplantation started to rise as compared to the normal demand level. In many countries it was a law that when any person dies, his relatives can donate his organs to the donor panels so that it can be used for any patients in the future. In the past, taking an organ of any living person was considered as illegal in many areas and countries, but as the cases of organ transplantation increased, the laws of many countries allowed the transplantation but only if the donor is of the blood relative. Now due to increase in inflation many people illegally donate their donors for money, and the people who take their organs give them a high sum of money.

 It is a common trend seen in many of the developing countries that several low standard hospitals  are involved in illegal transplantation of donors. It is seen and a common myth of many people living in developing countries that the person who are giving their donor will shorten their span of life so they refused to take organs from their blood relatives and then convince the doctor or any person who is an outside to donate to them . According to a U.S report, the cost is doubled when the organ is taken from an outsider. The researchers believe that following are some reason which makes a poor person to donate their organs;

  • For the sake of money
  • For the sake of helping others
  • To fulfill the needs of their family and many others.

To your interest I found out in my research that the doctors believe that the donor of a poor person is actually not suitable to use n transplantation because of the poor health condition he may have. (Becker, 2006)
